Silkscreen

Screen printing

Screen printing is a widely used method for creating repeated images. If you have a T-shirt with an image or text on it, chances are it was made using screen printing!

The way that I have used screen printing for art is less industrial and all hand-made. Instead of using chemical transfers to create the image on the screen, I make a paper stencil for each layer. This means that I can make less copies, as the stencils get destroyed in the printing process, but I enjoy the quality of the lines and the small imperfections that result from using paper.

As I print, I often vary the colors slightly each time I print the same layer on a new paper. I also make different combinations of layers for each piece. What results are images that, though versions of same design, are all unique.
